The ultra-efficient Explorer Premier uses MPEG4 compression to record up to 480 images per second (IPS) at CIF resolution. This can translate to 120FPS across eight cameras at D1 Resolution (720 x 480) or 240FPS at Half-D1 (720 x 240). This "real-time" recording - on all cameras - produces the smoothest images ever from Seon Mobile Surveillance. The high quality footage will keep watch when operators' eyes are on the road.
Using MPEG4 compression the dual 3.5" hard drives offer the largest storage capacity in the industry (1.5TB and larger). This pairing allows the Explorer Premier to record at higher frame rates and increased resolution without compromising archiving time.
The dual drives also offer a built-in failsafe feature. If for some reason a hard drive fails the Explorer Premier will automatically begin recording on the other drive.
The hot-swappable hard drives provide several options for retrieving and playing back video. Both hard drives can be taken out to protect the chain of custody, to download and to archive. It is also possible to access footage from the recorder with a laptop or monitor and remote. For quick access there is a front-panel mounted USB2.0 and Ethernet connection for data output to USB Thumb Drive, Local Area Network (LAN) and WLAN (Wireless). The new design also allows remote access to the Explorer Premier via WLAN for an extended period after the bus ignition is deactivated, while reducing overall draw on the battery.
The new design makes it even easier for users to be updated on the condition of the DVR. Without any additional equipment there are two ways to check the current status of the DVR: monitor it through the faceplate's LCD panel or its dashboard diagnostic LED for immediate feedback.
While built on the solid electronic platform as the successful Explorer mobile DVR, the Explorer Premier is a complete overhaul of the DVR itself. It increases vandal resistance and maintains the original's rugged design, specific for the mobile environment, while doing away with the lock box. Now users can get direct access to the DVR. The new design is easier to install and offers a more seamless integration. The protective design also limits access to the harnesses to ensure all connections remain fast and tamper resistant.
 The Explorer Premier also takes another step to do away with tampering by eliminating all buttons on the face. Instead, programming is done via a remote control partnered with a handheld monitor. Alternatively the built-in Web interface can remotely configure the DVR settings and monitor system status over LAN or WLAN. Even if the DVR is maliciously accessed through the locked faceplate, it cannot be turned off or adjusted without its remote.
The Explorer Premier also offers event recording that increases frame rate and image quality upon activation of an alarm - which can be triggered manually or automatically when preset limits are surpassed. These alarm events are stored in a protected area of the hard drive so they are not overwritten.
