Recent video captured by a Seon Mobile Surveillance system led to a sexual assault arrest.
York Regional Police (Ontario, Canada) thanked the public and media for responding quickly to the release of images of a suspect in a sexual assault case. The quick identification of the suspect led to an arrest within hours of the video and still images' release.
York Regional Police reported that on March 6th a 17-year-old female exited a Viva bus at Yonge Street and Crosby Avenue and began walking southbound on Yonge Street.
The suspect, who boarded the bus at Yonge and Wellington Streets in the Town of Aurora, exited at the same stop and tried to engage her in conversation, reported police. The suspect then touched her inappropriately and verbally harassed her despite her requests that he leave her alone. He continued to follow her and pushed her against a residence and once again inappropriately touched the victim.
The victim managed to break free and called police.
Investigators released video and images from the Seon Explorer 8-Channel onboard the Viva bus, in hopes they would assist police in identifying the suspect.
Shortly after the images were released a youth was arrested in connection with the sexual assault based on tips related to the video, said police.
Images cannot be reproduced as the suspect has subsequently been identified as a youth and is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
