Best Practices for Managing Your Video Files
Video file management doesn’t take a lot of time, but it does require attention. To avoid the loss·of valuable footage and expedite the archiving process, here are a few easy but important steps.
Burn your video files on CD or DVD or save them on another removable storage device. Removing the files from your computer will free up hard drive space.
Avoid filling up your hard drive. If you receive an error message while archiving your video, it may be due to a lack of space on your hard drive because previously archived video has not been compressed or deleted. Uncompressed video uses more space (approximately 100 times more). If you don’t compress, your hard drive will fill up faster.
When archiving video files, be sure you don’t delete previously archived footage that you hope to access in the future until you have backed up your files on CD or DVD. Be sure you are done with files before deleting them.
Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements outlined in your operator manual, or your hardware may not be compatible with Seon’s product software. In addition, pack your system with as much power as possible. The more power you have, the shorter the archiving time duration.
Defragment your hard drive at least once a month, if you are doing a lot of archiving. Defragmenting reorganizes the data in your hard drive more efficiently and improves your computer’s performance. A fragmented hard drive can significantly slow your computer.
Make Windows updates a regular part of your maintenance routine. Updates help protect your
computer against the latest viruses and other security threats. Video file management doesn’t take a lot of time, but it does require attention. To avoid the loss of valuable footage and expedite the archiving process, here are a few easy but important steps.
